Citadel Theatre - Edmonton

THE OVERCOAT
Created and Directed by MORRIS PANYCH and WENDY GORLING
Based on a short story of NIKOLAI GOGOL

March 17 – April 8, 2007
Shoctor Theatre

The Overcoat integrates physical theatre and the sweeping music of Shostakovich to tell a richly detailed story of the transformation of a common man's ordinary life when he acquires a beautiful new coat. His identify is changed, his place in society shifts and his life is shattered.

This bittersweet tale of passage is absolutely astonishing. Set admidst the grandeur and poverty of the universal metropolis, 22 actors conjure the recognizable tale of how the need to be popular can inspire lust, envy and exquisite madness.
